Hills was founded in 1920 by George Hill who developed a small market garden in Epsom, Surrey, selling product through his local market stall. After the end of the Second World War, George’s sons, Claude, Godfrey and Norman joined the business.
During this period a florist shop was opened in Epsom town centre and the market stall continued to flourish. Glasshouses were built and a wide range of crops were grown (including Cut Flower Chrysanthemums, Daffodils, Tulips, Perennials, Bedding and Tomatoes).
Hill Brothers (Chichester)
Claude’s sons, Peter, Kevin and Guy, relocated the business to Chichester in 1972 and here it has expanded to include over 5 acres of ornamental pot plant production with the latest 2 acre production area completed in 2007.
Now on the 4th generation of Hills, Hill Brothers has an excellent understanding of the UK market. Since the 1980’s Hills has been supplying direct to the UK supermarkets.
We currently produce approximately 2.1 million plants a year for the UK consumer.
As grower suppliers, we are able to manage the quality of the products we deliver and exceed our customer expectations.
As UK producers and packers our products are guaranteed to arrive fresher, ensuring the plants performs better for the end consumer.
We strive to follow the best environmental practises available. We have been running a program of integrated crop management to control pests for many years and have minimum chemical usage across our nursery sites.
Leythorne Ornamentals
Hills set up Leythorne Ornamentals as a joint venture in 1999 in order to maximise the patio product market. Leythorne produces up to approximately 500,000 plants each year over 10 acres; which include Betulia, Hydrangea, Lavender and Herbs. They also grow large volumes of Poinsettias for the Christmas season.
Together, Hills and Leythorne have been developing patio products over the last 10 years striving to develop the unique range with new and interesting genetics.
Now on the 4th generation of Hills, Hill Brothers has an excellent understanding of the UK market.
